Bryanta "Bre" Maxwell is a Columbia, South Carolina-based political strategist whose career represents something genuinely rare in American politics: a professional who has shaped elections, moved principals, built coalitions, influenced party leadership, and done it all from the inside — at every level that matters.
A proud graduate of South Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Maxwell began her political career where so many consequential careers begin — in the office of Congressman James E. Clyburn, the most powerful Democrat in South Carolina and one of the most influential members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Serving as his District Scheduler and Executive Assistant, she developed an early and deep understanding of how power operates, how relationships are built, and what it takes to earn trust at the highest levels of American political life.
That foundation launched one of the most impressive career arcs in Democratic politics. Maxwell went on to serve as Political Director for Jaime Harrison's U.S. Senate campaign — at the time, the most expensive Senate race in American history. As Political Director, she owned the campaign's political operation: managing coalitions, stewarding key relationships, and making the strategic judgments that defined the race's direction. It was a senior leadership role on a nationally watched, history-making campaign that put South Carolina at the center of the American political conversation.
Her advance work placed her even closer to the beating heart of American democracy. Maxwell has served on the advance teams for both Secretary Marcia Fudge, U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and Vice President Kamala Harris — an extraordinarily short list of operatives trusted with principal protection at the Cabinet and Vice Presidential level. To move the Vice President of the United States is to operate at the apex of political execution, where the margin for error is zero and the trust required is absolute.
In the 2024 presidential cycle, Maxwell returned to the Democratic National Committee for her second tour of duty — this time leading rural coalition strategy during a presidential election year. Building and executing outreach to one of the most contested and difficult-to-reach voter blocs in the country, she demonstrated the rare ability to think beyond the base and compete on terrain that decides national elections. She currently serves the DNC as a Leadership Manager, shaping the organizational infrastructure of the national party in real time.
Perhaps most tellingly, Maxwell played a key role in the DNC Chair's race that resulted in the election of Ken Martin as Chair of the Democratic National Committee. To help determine who leads the national party is to operate at a level of strategic influence that transcends any single campaign — it is a demonstration that Bryanta Maxwell's impact on Democratic politics is structural, not episodic.
Beyond the operational world, Maxwell is a familiar and trusted face in political media. She has delivered commentary and analysis on Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, and Newsmax — a cross-platform credibility that is genuinely rare for a Democratic strategist and reflects her belief that showing up everywhere is not optional.
A proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Maxwell has served as President of the Young Democrats of South Carolina and currently holds the position of DNC Committee Woman. She is based in Columbia, South Carolina and available for strategic consulting, speaking engagements, and media commentary.
Bryanta "Bre" Maxwell has not just watched history unfold. She has been in the room — and in many cases, she built it.
